Thank you for providing a smart and sophisticated place where I can research ethically-made and cruelty-free products for my own discerning brute. Th sonly downside is that we're in Australia and all the yummy restaurants you feature are so far away from us ;-) good excuse for a trip to your side of the world. You write, "...the rise of major factory farms,
caused many family farms to close." I'm not sure the opposite isn't
true. That is, factory farms developed to fill the void left by failing
family farms.

One mustn't forget that the (idealized) family farm was 160 acres
plowed, planted, and harvested on the blood, sweat, and tears of a man,
his wife, and children---as soon as they were old enough to haul water,
chop wood, run a team of horses, collect eggs, milk, or perform scores
of other chores necessary to the running of the “family” farm.

My mother was raised on such a family farm in the second decade of the
20th century. As a girl as young as 7 or 8 her job was to bring water
in from the well and/or lay and start the fire in the kitchen stove.
All this before going to school (walking or riding a horse). Her two
older brothers weren't permitted to attend school beyond 8th grade as
they were needed on the "family" farm.

It's no wonder that given these harsh conditions many people left the
farm with no fond memories to draw them back as the long-suffering
parents were finally able to retire to the city where they might be
greeted by indoor plumbing and electric lights. As a result, those 160
acres were consolidated until the family farm was essentially gone.
Today's family farm is hardly distinguishable from a "factory" farm.

You further write, "...perhaps we should return to natural living..."
Now, I don't know exactly what you mean by "natural" living, but in the
context of your blog it seems you are referring to a return to the
"family" farm. To that extent, I can't believe that anyone would would
actually welcome a return to that kind of "natural" living.

I suggest that what so many lament isn't the passing of the family farm,
but rather the passing of the evenings when the family was drawn
together to a hearty meal after a hard day's work; a time that we
weren't constantly bombarded by 24 hour news channels; a time when we
knew our neighbors and our neighbors' kids; a time when Twitter and
Facebook didn't tell us what everyone was doing 1 minute after they did
it; a time when "live and let live" was a motto to live by.

I think we want a simpler, but less harsh time. I fear that door has closed.

Re: Nate Diaz’s Battlepath to the Top

hah! Couldnt watch all the video. Disturbed me too much! (Perhaps one day I will watch it all, but for a 16 year old girl to watch that, ill take my time!) I was truly naive about the condition of the animals but im well aware now. I believe if you want a leather look, plastic and faux leather is the way. Perhaps there were some issues about that in the video? its cheap and yes, may not last as long but the low price of it means that you can afford a new cheap one each time. right? Personally, I do like the look of leather - especially on elvis ;) but after this post, no REAL leather is coming onto my skin.

Re: FAQ

My friend Victoria Moran just released a book.
I understand why you're upset, but when you actually do research, you'll find that many of the things you claim and believe are based in myth and effective marketing campaigns from the incredibly wealthy and subsidized meat and dairy industry whose SOLE INTEREST is making money.

Being vegan is not about preventing death. Everything dies. We kill things just by being alive. The point is to minimize the amount of suffering we cause for something that is a choice for many of us. No one is telling people who need meat to survive to stop killing animals. Many of us can thrive on a plant-based diet (as more and more high-performance athletes who are going vegan have proven).

But even if it were about preventing deaths, veganism would still be the preferred option since it takes so much cropland to feed cattle (almost 90% of global soy production is used to feed cattle). Just think of the number of animals displaced and killed simply to feed cattle who are then also killed and bred in the billions simply to consume tons of water and crops at a losing ratio.

Choosing to exercise compassion takes a lot of strength of character, so
it's understandable why you ad many people shy away from protecting animals
- it's not for the meek. Going along with mainstream values is easy, and
defending tradition and something that satisfies a selfish desire is also
easy when the majority rationalizes it.

There are solutions the problems you bring up if you'd take the time to
actually look into it and do proper research.

Re: 'Carnivore' Pride

Uhm, actually, all the rates of those things you just described, have gone UP since people started eating vegetable oils and soy products. btw, look up any men and women from purely Carnivoist cultures. they are extremly healthy, no obesity, vision problems, diseases, or hairloss.

Re: 'Carnivore' Pride

wow, your really delusional. if people want to eat meat, they have the RIGHT. to do so.
Btw, have you ever raised animals? No? then STFU. you don't even know the basics of how hard it is to raise and care for animals, any good person takes care of their animals like family, and its not like we slaughter them all as soon as we can. often, one to two animals is chosen a year, usually those that are older then 3 years. many private farm owners try to raise their animals as healthly as possible. we care for our animals. however, to be realistic, (which you people are not) even if you grow crops to eat (which displaces more animals then it helps, and BTW, you can't feed the animals and the humans at the same time, you ever farmed in rural landscape? heard of deer or elk? they LOVE getting into your garden) you are STILL killing something to live(plants are alive and have souls and spirits too, my people knew this a long time). no matter what you do, you ARE killing something else by existing. the real point is, to take care of your enviornment and the other lviing beings in it while you are alive, your body will be used by a predator and recycled by the earth after you die, it is a simple NORMAL aspect of nature. please, before you try to "help" the eath and animals you need to understand how they work, live, reproduce, die, and mostly, affect other living beings around them.

also, the picture above, is kinda hot in a weird kinky way, aside from you know, the guy apparently going to kiss the deskinned cow head.

Re: The Trump Boys’ African Killing Spree

what a joke, give the animals a gun also, now that's a sport.
